To His Excellency the Governor of the State of Mississippi

The petition of John H Jarnigan O F Coleman J H Wright W E Pope Zachariah Price Anthony High ^Jack Miller^ would respectfully show unto your ~~Honor~~ Excellency that at the September Term 1874 of the Circuit Court of Bolivar County Mississippi two Indictments were found against Nelson Glass a colored Justice of the Peace of said County for failing to account for fines collected and that when arrested by the sheriff yr petitioners signed his two separate recognizances for Five Hundred Dollars each for the appearance of said Glass to answer the charge—That said Glass failed to appear and forfeiture of recognizance was taken against Glass and your petitioners on said bonds—They would further show that three days after the adjournment of the Circuit Court they rearrested said Glass and delivered him to B K Bruce Sheriff of said County as will be seen by receipt herewith presented—They most respectfully pray that your Excellency may remit the amount of forfeiture entered against them inasmuch as the intentions and purposes of the law have been fully met by ~~the~~ recapturing and delivering at their own expense and without cost either to the county or state the said Glass

Respectfully returned to His Excellency The Governor with the following statement & recommendation. The man Glass was Indicted for Embezlement of public money.

But as the accused has been delivered up for trial we recommend the forfiture be remitted upon the payment of cost of Court including the District Atty fee allowed by law on forfeitr reconizanes
