At a meeting of the Republican Executive Committee of Holmes County held in Lexington Saturday May 29^th—among other proceedings, the following resolutions was adopted by a vote of 12 to 1:—

Resolved That Albert O. Lowell be respectfully recommended to His Excellency Governor Ames for appointment to the office of Supervisor of District No 1 vice J. M. Stigler removed from the County.

Dear Sir,—

In connection with the resolution of the Executive Committee recommending the appointment of A. O. Lowell as Supervisor of District No 1, I take the liberty of saying a word in that regard. The Board of Supervisors will meet on the first Monday of June where important business will come before it. The finances of the County are in a very disordered condition, no settlements having been made by the present Tax Collector, warrants are at a ruinous discount, and intelligent and decided action of the Board of Supervisors is m needed. Mr Lowell is chairman of a committee appointed by an association of teachers to look into the finances of that department, and I believe is the best man for the position under the present

circumstances.

I suppose the same system of abuse will be pursued toward his as toward all who have seen fit to oppose the Courthouse ring. Mr Lowell has been in the state since 1868 and in this county two or three years. His family is now living in this town and he is teaching school about five miles in the Country. He served during the whole war in a Maine Regiment and was engaged in nearly all the battles of the 6^th. Army Corps, and now suffers from the service. He is a man of perfectly correct habits—thoroughly honest, & a Republican who places party above individual interest. The weight of the charges that he is without property or interest here may be judged from the fact that while he is physically incaple of severe labor on account of diseases contracted in the service of his party and his country, and has a wife and two children to care for, the persons who make the charge have recom-mended to you for a appointment to the same position a man without property, without family, without influence and who has been of no service to his party or his country.

I sincerely hope that you will deem it your duty to give him the appointment.
