CHICAGO.

Alfred Moses

Being sworn upon Oath states: that I live 5 miles from Raymond ^on^ Mrs. Duncan Wigate's place. I rent land from Mr. [Wright, Unknown|Wright]]—I run a farm I was at Saturday. I was up in Clinton when the shooting place there. I went down towards the ground where the, barbecue was held when I heard of the shooting after reaching the railroad on my mule I turned to go not wishing to risk myself over there.

As I was returning Capt. William Montgomery fired on me with a double barrelled shot gun and three of the shot took effect in my left leg and wounded the mule that I rode Mr. A. D. Mead was near me at the time & I think saw the shooting done, I carried my mule home and staid all night and left for Jackson the next night at dark and got to Jackson Monday at dinner time my wound is considered by the doctors a very severe one and may cause loss of the leg.
