Near Warrenton Miss Oct 7 1875

Hon Sir being an old citizen of this Warren County and a [?] and Knowing the plans of the Democracy—will laid to carry the election of this county and being no lover of Democracy althugh mis-takenly thought to be I will reveal to you how or in what manner they entend to pursue to defeat the republican party of this country if not in all the other there is a precinct at Bovina Warrenton Red Bone Newton & Dans Bend that Rolls are over white majority and these several boxes are to ^{Folio I} be destroyed and never to be counted Gov Inside in the lower end of the County six miles below Warrenton and it would not be safe for me to proclaim openly my party sentiment I never was in all my life a democrat I opposed them from my boy-hood up I have secured under the administration of Gen Grant full pay for all my losses during the war and am today

with fortunes more than I was before the war The democrats will in my opinion carry the city box Vicksburg by about four hundred majority and if they can destroy ^{Folio II} the other county boxes they will elect their senator & representives and all local officers in the county I believe there is a company or two of U S troops in the county would it not be well for ten or fifteen of those soldiers to be ordered on the election day to attend at each of the precincts before mentioned Keep order and guard the boxes to the city and then protect them until the last vote is counted and the returns Transmitted to Jackson For safety & security I would suggest some such ^{Folio III} plan mark are if something of the kind is not done The demo-crats will carry the county by threat by fraud intimendation &c I believe candidly that at least that 30 of the old white citizens of my police district will not support the democratic ticket

as I have heard them express themselves so to me the Themselves dont suit—them as their say are not of their choice and consequently will not vote for them I send you this letter in confidence and hope you will not mention my name in connection with it as it would ^{Folio IIII}get me in trouble if not cost me my life I am your excellency's obt servant
