Sir

The white leagures have been operating in and about Richland for the past two nights On monday night about one or two oclock they made an attack on Mr S Wades House expecting to find me at home for the purpose of assasinating me they suceeded in wringing of the knob of my door and fired two shots in Mr Wades Room without taking effect I heard fireing in Richland last night but have not learned the results They openly declare that Mess Holmes Warren Rowen others and myself—shall not live to see the election We are trying to keep the colored people cheerfull
