Proclamation of Thanksgiving.

BY J. M. THAYER, GOVERNOR OF THE TERRITORY OF WYOMING.

The time has arrived, when, in compliance with an appropriate and time- honored custom, a day is set apart for the offering up of Thanksgiving and Praise to the Supreme Ruler of the Universe, for His boundless Love and Mercy.

It is fitting thus, as a people and as individuals, to acknowledge the Divine Power over us, and to recognize the source from which all blessings flow.

We have been highly favored as a people; we have been blessed with general health; we have been preserved from famine, from pestilence and from destruction by the elements; industry has been followed with its rewards; we have been favored with the riches of these mountains and with the increase of the flocks and the herds upon the plains; our hearts have been gladdened with general prosperity and happiness; and we have a goodly heritage in this land of civil and religious liberty.

Therefore, in accordance with this time-honored practice, and with the

Proclamation of the President of the United States,

I earnestly request the people of Wyoming to observe

Thursday, the 25th day of November, 1875,

as a day of Thanksgiving, and that, laying aside their usual pursuits, they assemble in their accustomed places devoted to Christian worship, and offer up the homage of grateful hearts to our Heavenly Father, for His unnum-bered blessings, and implore the continuance of His smiling countenance upon us.

LET THE PEOPLE SING PRAISES TO THE MOST HIGH.

IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand, and caused the Great Seal of the Territory to be affixed.

Done at the City of Cheyenne, this 8th day of November, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-five, and of the Independence of the United States, the one hundredth.
