To His Excellency Adelbert Ames
Governor of the State of Mississippi

Sir

Your petitioners Citizens of the County of Lauderdale and State of Mississippi respectfully represent that, L. D. Belk of the City of Meridian ^an_d said County was indicted at the last Term of the Circuit Court of said County for Gaming to which the said L. D. Belk plead guilty and was fined $20⁰⁰, no (774)

And your petitioners feeling that the said L D Belk is not able to pay said fine and believing him to be a worthy Citizen

Most respectfully pray your Excellency to grant him a remittal of said fine and as in duty bound your petitioners will ever pray &c
