Gov. Ames,

If you can use any influence with Capt Shaunesey & have Ham Carter removed from Deputy Revenue Assessor on account of his giving in and helping defraud in the last Election and let the Democrats support him find a Republican Ham Carter was put up to beat Shaunesey & also Gen M^cKee for if they had got the Republican Nomination whites would have prefered either and they would have contested the Election he was in the ring with the Monitor & did harm & the people he placed in power would drive Capt Shaunesey from Miss—Your white Southern Friends are going to help you shell old Kleins Fraudulent Legislature—working men speak of getting up Companys & Etc they will soon have nevetr swear that the Election was a Fraud 20 men yesterday who do Business begin to think that he owns them as slaves

If Business gets worse—people will all be Republicans or any thing in order to eat Bread and Meat—Strife is being Stiredup in order to force people to tell the Truth about the Election & if you can get the office from Ham Carter & give it to a man who is capable & brave enough—swear the Truth as he knows about the intimidation & [unclear] small salary would enable him [unclear] have bread independantly of K[unclear] or any rings if Ham Carter cannot be thrown if Democratic Politics to [unclear] the Republican Party will never be reinstated but If you can have him removed I will have not one honest Democrat Summoned but nearly every man in Town also counted out Demcratic. Candidates feel as badly sold out & if possible have him out by monday
