Your letter of the 20th Inst. (via Brookhaven) reached to me this morning, with the request to furnish the Executive Office with my bill, if any, for ^legal services rendered during the past year

I have received, as a retainer fee, in the three cases in which I was retained for the state, one thousand dollars, (in State Warrants), and had not intended to claim more until the cases were finally disposed of, as then I could better proportion my charges to the labor performed

Should his Excellency, the Governor, desire to have the claim presented in anticipation of what the future services will probably be, so as to conclude the whole matter, I will so make out the bill, when notified that such is the desire of his Excellency.
