Dear Sir:

Your letter of 2^nd_" inst received. In reply I would say that very soon after I entered the Jail at the time to which you refer in your letter, Judge Drennan retired. As nearly as I can recall the cir-cumstance, Col Morgan had evidently called his attention to some thing in a law book, but what his remarks were, I do not recollect. I have written Mr. W. A. Morgan who was quite a prominant witness in the case to communicate with you immediately, if he knows any thing in this connection.

Did you hear him say that he would be acquitted before any court, but that he (D) has him in jail to save his (M) life.
