Personally appeared before me The undersigned clerk of U S District court in and for the southern District of Mississipp William W Dedrick U S Attorny in and for said district Who being by me duly sworn doth depose that on or about the seventh of december A D 1874 deponent was present at a consultation held at the Governors mansion in Mississippi to consider the question of the forcible expulsion from his office of Shreiff Petter Crosby of Warren County Miss Deponent remand at said Conference throughout the entire evening and until the same dessolved and most of the truth took theer leave Affiant states that neither at said conference or prior nor subsequent there to did his excellincy in Affiants hearing make use of any remark of the tenor following—to wit "The Killig of 25 or 30 Negroes would be a good thing for the republican party

nor any expression that could legit-imately or truthfully so construed Affiant on the other hand states that said consultation was in the interest of law and order and it had no other purpose to the best of Affiants ~~knowledge~~ information & ~~belief~~ and beleave them to counsel the Governor as to the most proper cause to be pursued to forcibly and lawfully restore said sheriff Crobsy if possible to the possesion of his office & the exercise of his lawfull duties as sheriff of said county
