Ration return of W. H. Munroe; July 1, 1865
From the Mississippi Department of Archives and History Governor Sharkey Collection. Ration return of W. H. Munroe, manager of the United States Military Telegraph at Jackson, Mississippi, requesting rations to be issued for employees of the United States Military Telegraph Corps at Jackson. The return is approved by Captain and Assistant Adjutant General J. Warren Miller, by order of Major General Peter J. Osterhaus, thus authorizing the Assistant Commissary of Subsistence to issue the requested rations.

The return is approved by Colonel O. C. Risdon, thus authorizing the Assistant Commissary of Subsistence to issue the requested rations.

From the Mississippi Department of Archives and History Governor Pettus Collection. Three copies of a telegram from Confederate President Jefferson Davis at Richmond, Virginia, to Mississippi Governor John J. Pettus and other unnamed persons, informing Pettus that his dispatch was received and discussing Confederate military movements. All three copies indicate that Davis's original message was written on June 20, 1863. The first and second copies, received June 21, 1863 and June 22, 1863, respectively, are written partially in code. The third copy contains a partially decoded version of Davis's message.
