Alcorn, rebuffing the appointment of a Mr. Collins to the Leflore County Board of Supervisors and stating that Collins, a colored man, is a "bigoted ignorant fellow." He suggests instead the name of George Kempton. Smith also requests that the newly formed county be placed in the upper levee district rather than the lower district.
