The 3rd Regiment, Michigan Infantry (Union) was organized on May 21, 1861 in Grand Rapids, Michigan under the command of Col. Daniel McConnell and served in the Eastern Theater. It was later commanded by Cols. Stephen Garner Champlin and Byron Root Pierce. It mustered out of service on June 10, 1864. (NPS-BU; MSR-US; Wiki)
