The 18th Battalion Mississippi Partisan Rangers (Chalmer’s) was organized in fall 1862 under the command of Maj. Alex. H. Chalmers and served in the Western Theater. It served in Chalmer’s, McCulloch’s, and Starke’s brigades. It was reorganized and re-designated as the 18th Regiment, Mississippi Cavalry on January 1, 1865 and mustered out of service on the same date. (NPS-BU; MSR-CSA) -
