The 4th Battalion, Louisiana Infantry was organized on July 10, 1861 under the command of Lt. Col. John McEnery and served in the Eastern and Western theaters. It was part of the Army of the Kanawha and later part of Adams’ and Gibson’s Brigade. It was comprised of three companies of men from the 11th Regiment, Louisiana Infantry, and was assigned to Adams’ and Gibson’s Brigade in the Army of Tennessee. The 18th Battalion Mississippi Partisan Rangers (Chalmer’s) was organized in fall 1862 under the command of Maj. Alex. H. Chalmers and served in the Western Theater. It served in Chalmer’s, McCulloch’s, and Starke’s brigades. Jennings' Independent Company, Mississippi Cavalry to form Miller's Regiment, Mississippi Cavalry on December 24, 1863. It was later re-designated as the 9th Regiment, Mississippi Cavalry. It was later consolidated with part of the 5th Regiment, Mississippi Cavalry and Saunders' Independent Company to form the 18th Regiment, Mississippi Cavalry on March 16, 1865.
