Sharp's Brigade was organized under the command of Brig. Gen. Sharp. It was consolidated as the 9th Mississippi Regiment on April 9, 1865, under the command of Col. William C. Richards and served in the Western Theater. It was later commanded by Gen. John Bell Hood. (DR-MSOR, 594-595, 604)
Featherston's Brigade was organized in June 1862 under the command of Brig. Gen. Winfield Scott Featherston. It served in the Eastern, Western, and Trans-Mississippi Theaters under the Army of Mississippi and Gen. Leonidas Polk's Army. Divisions of the unit were also commanded by Col. Mellon, Lt. Col. The 4th Regiment, Mississippi Infantry (Army of 10,000-Davis' Brigade) (Confederate) was organized in the fall of 1861 under the command of Col. Mark P. Lowrey and served in the Western Theater. (DR-MSOR 759, 759-760)
